A court sentenced a supervisor to 7 months in prison for obstructing employees' right to join a union.
A supervisor at a public institution who prevented employees from joining a union was sentenced by a court to 7 months in prison.
Obstructing union membership constitutes a criminal offense under international conventions to which Turkey is a party and under domestic legal regulations. This ruling makes clear that union rights are protected under law and that those who violate them will be prosecuted.
As the Cultural Workers' Union, we welcome this ruling and affirm that we will continue to stand by our members who face similar obstructions. Defend your union rights; report any form of obstruction or pressure to our union.
