
Şekip Taşpınar, Unforgettable Name of Turkish Theatre, Has Passed Away

Dear Members, Arts Community, and Esteemed Public,
As the Cultural Workers' Union, we have learned with profound sorrow of the passing of our esteemed member, theatre, film, and television actor, voice artist, and educator Mehmet Şekip Taşpınar. Through an art-filled career packed into 56 years of life, Şekip Taşpınar left an indelible mark on both stage and screen and became one of the most cherished names in our cultural and artistic world.
Born on 10 February 1969 in Ankara, Şekip Taşpınar laid a solid foundation in the art of theatre through his training at Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory. His journey on stage, which began in 1988 at the Ankara Halk Oyuncuları Theatre, continued at Ankara State Theatre between 1995 and 1998, and subsequently at Adana State Theatre from 1999 onwards. Between 2000 and 2003 he taught acting, diction, and phonetics at Çukurova University State Conservatory, contributing to the training of young artists.
Taşpınar became widely known to television audiences through his portrayal of "Cevat Akarsu" in the series Kurtlar Vadisi Pusu. He won a place in the hearts of viewers through the roles he brought to life in productions including Behzat Ç., Karadayı, Cesur Yürek, Arıza, Kanunsuz Topraklar, Beyaz Gelincik, and Teşkilat. In 2017, he cemented his mastery with the "Best Male Actor of the Year" award at the Başkent Awards.
As a member of the Cultural Workers' Union, Şekip Taşpınar consistently supported the rights struggle of arts workers.
