We would like to remind you of Article 26 of the Constitution.

Artists should not be subjected to pressure because of their works or their on-stage expressions; critical and humorous speech should not be used as a means of punishment. In an environment where art is not free, it is impossible to speak of freedom of thought and democratic development.
Announcement
As culture workers, we believe that art and the freedom of thought and expression are indispensable elements of a democratic society.
The detention of a comedian over the humorous and critical expressions he used in his stage performance, and the way this process has been reflected to the public, raise serious concerns regarding freedom of expression and artistic freedom.
Article 26 of the Constitution guarantees everyone the right to express and disseminate their thoughts and opinions by speech, in writing, in pictures or through other means. Article 64 states: "The State shall protect artistic activities and artists. It shall take the necessary measures to protect, evaluate and support works of art and artists, and to spread the love of art."
Artists must not be placed under pressure because of their works or their expressions on stage; critical and humorous speech must not be turned into an instrument of punishment. In an environment where art is not free, it is impossible to speak of freedom of thought or democratic development. We demand the immediate release of Deniz Göktaş.
As the Culture Workers' Union, we will continue to stand with art, with artists and with culture workers, and to defend freedom of expression, democratic values and the rule of law.
