We would like to remind you of Article 26 of the Constitution.

Artists should not be subjected to pressure because of their works or their on-stage expressions; critical and humorous speech should not be used as a means of punishment. In an environment where art is not free, it is impossible to speak of freedom of thought and democratic development.
Announcement
As cultural workers, we believe that art, freedom of thought, and freedom of expression are indispensable elements of a democratic society.
The detention of a comedian due to humorous and critical remarks made during a stage performance—and the way this incident has been portrayed in the public sphere—raises serious concerns regarding freedom of expression and artistic freedom.
Article 26 of the Constitution guarantees everyone the right to express and disseminate their thoughts and opinions through speech, writing, images, or other means. Article 64 states: “The State protects artistic activities and artists. It takes the necessary measures to protect, evaluate, and support works of art and artists, and to promote a love of art.”
Artists should not be subjected to pressure because of their works or their expressions on stage; critical and humorous speech should not be turned into a tool for punishment. In an environment where art is not free, it is impossible to speak of freedom of thought and democratic development. We demand the immediate release of Deniz Göktaş.
As the Union of Cultural Workers, we will continue to stand by art, artists, and cultural workers; and to defend freedom of expression, democratic values, and the rule of law.
